I am so grateful to Equity Charitable Trust for the generosity which enabled me to undertake an MA in Actor Training and Coaching at Royal Central School of Speech and Drama 2017-2018. Entering a conservatoire/university education in my late fifties was a superb and stimulating experience, both intellectually and pedagogically, enhancing my practical toolkit, teaching me to think and write with rigour and developing my confidence. As an actor who had coached students primarily on a one to one level, the idea of facilitating large groups in a professional environment seemed daunting to me last year. I have just finished my first professional job since graduation (directing MA students at a conservatoire) and am delighted to have been asked back, along with an offer to work with MA film students in London. I have, so far, been fortunate in being able to combine this with working as an actor, which is currently my aim.
As someone who didn’t go to university, receiving Distinction at Masters’ level is an achievement I am extremely proud of and I can’t thank ECT enough for their faith in me.
